Technology Trends in 2022

In this year of post-pandemic recovery, technology companies have viewed the current crisis as a catalyst for change, and we will discuss the technology trends expected for 2022.

Over the nearly two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, our perception of daily life as a society—and the way we function in any setting—has changed. As a result, innovative solutions with the potential to reshape the world have begun to emerge.

Predicting the future is a risky endeavor, especially in the technology sector, where the opportunities offered by innovation are virtually limitless.

Some technologies have succeeded in addressing the threats we face and have managed to create opportunities—opportunities that have led to new ways of life that are here to stay.

Sustainability and ‘Agrotech’

If there’s one thing companies have been clear about for the past few years, it’s that the future will either be sustainable or it won’t be at all.

The European Commission is calling for a new ecological, digital, and inclusive normal, financed through the massive recovery fund.

Thousands of companies and startups will be eligible to receive non-repayable grants to spearhead projects that promote a more sustainable economic model.

‘Blockchain’ and the metaverse

Other technologies and solutions with growth potential for 2022—which are already transforming the financial industry—include virtual reality and decentralized finance usingblockchain.

The biggest development set to be introduced in 2022 will be tied to the metaverse. Facebook’s rebranding to Meta has been a clear statement of intent regarding Zuckerberg’s plans for next year.“The metaverse is a trend that will bring together all of today’s fintech, giving rise to a new global economy and a new way of working,” explains the expert.

Plots of land are already being sold for building construction within established metaverses such as Decenterland and The Sandbox.

‘Open banking’

“Open banking” refers to the liberalization of access to customer data and accounts, with the aim of optimizing the banking sector.

Using an API (open application programming interface), banking information is provided to third parties in accordance with European regulations.

Thanks to this process, financial institutions share their users’ data with other companies, thereby fostering competition and, as a result, offering more favorable terms to customers.

Throughout 2022, in addition to creating new services within data-sharing ecosystems, efforts will be made to empower users to take control of their data.
